Which tires are right for your car?

As we head in to winter, Gurley Leep Ford-Lincoln encourages everyone to take notice of their tires.  The tires your car is riding on can have a dramatic impact in several ways.  They help determine your gas mileage, how your car handles, breaking distance, how it rides, and how it performs in different types of weather.  There are differing opinions on whether different tires  for winter are necessary or even advantageous if you live in an area where climates are varied.  Here, we try to help guide you through the process of choosing which tires are best for your car.

A few tips when deciding:  Consider your driving conditions, as well as your driving habits.  If you live in an area where snowfall is prevalent and you drive "aggressively" no matter the conditions, then  you are probably a good candidate for snow tires.  They will help with your braking distances, keeping you and those around you safer.  Even if you are a cautious driver, snow tires are something to consider.  All-season tires simply can't be the best tires for all seasons, they are designed to be acceptable for all conditions.
Buy the best tires you can afford.  Especially living in the Midwest, we never know what the weather will bring us.  Having the best tires on your car you can might keep you out of an accident, and will help your car perform better.

The Lincoln MKC

The Lincoln MKC is aimed right at the center of the luxury, compact SUV crossover market. While some of Lincoln's have been quirky and somewhat eccentric, the MKC is sophisticated but fits right into its class. It wows with a luxurious cabin and plenty of technology and performs with enthusiasm, all while being available at a few grand less than equivalent models from more established luxury brands. The Lincoln MKC may share a platform with the Ford Escape, but with its elegant sheet metal and distinctive grille, few will mistake the MKC for its mainstream sibling. The MKC is longer, lower and wider, with standard features such as heated seats and xenon headlights.

Winterizing your Vehicle

1.  Check your battery.  Getting stranded in the cold with a dead battery is no one's idea of a good time.  If you have a maintenance-free battery, there should be a window on the top of the battery that tells you the state of it's charge.  If it's not, check the fluid levels, and top off with distilled water as necessary.  if you're not sure how to check your battery, most any auto parts store will be able to check it for you.

2.  Check your tires.  While a dead battery can leave you stranded, balding tires on snowy and icy roads can lead to a much more dangerous situation.  If you live in an area that gets a significant amount of snow, you may want to consider snow tires.

3.  Check your wiper blades.  Going cheap on your wiper blades or ignoring them can lead to very unpleasant driving in the winter.  Bad wipers can't do an adequate job of keeping the snow and ice off of your windshield, no matter how high you have the defrosters blasting.

4.  Check your fluids.  Check your owner's manual, but for most vehicles, the cooling system should be flushed every two years.  If your vehicle is overdue, prior to winter setting in is as good of a time as any to have it taken care of.  Also, refer to your owner's manual to find what type and what mixture of anti-freeze you should be using.  You will also want to keep your windshield washer fluid full, using a fluid that is designed for not freezing in the cold weather.  If you get stuck behind a truck throwing dirty snow at your windshield, you will be glad you did.  As always, change your oil regularly.

5.  Keep your vehicle supplied.  Normal emergency materials are key for the winter.  If you do get stranded on the road, you want other driver's to be able to see you.  Roadside flares are not excessive to keep on hand.  Keeping extra warm cloths, gloves, and a blanket or two are always good ideas as well.  Be sure to have lock de-icer on hand- and keep in mind that it doesn't always help to have it in the car.  Some in your house, and some at work are a great idea.

6.  Care for the interior of your car.  In and out of the snow, ice, and salt can be particularly rough on your carpets.  Be sure to have at least an inexpensive set of floor mats for your car.  Better yet are the kind that can hold the water and keep it away from your carpets completely.

7.  Let your car warm up (and revving your engine doesn't really help).  Keep in mind, though, thieves are excellent at watching for cars that are running but unattended.  Have an extra door key that you keep on you and lock the doors while it is warming up, even if you are at home.

8.  Be safe.  Allow extra time to get where you are going, leave plenty of space between you and the driver in front, and use good common sense.  It's better to arrive a few minutes late than not at all.

Contact our Service Department to schedule an appointment for your vehicle to make sure it's ready for winter.

Got Bad Credit?

If your credit could use some improvement, and traditional banks have turned you down for a used car loan, take a look at Gurley Leep’s Credit Acceptance Corporation program.

Our CAC program is perfect for first-time buyers, or people who have had credit issues in the past, such as medical collections, etc.  We are linked directly to CAC, so approval is instant.  No waiting on pins and needles awaiting an answer.  Unlike a buy here/pay here type dealership, our lenders will report to all credit bureaus, which will help you improve your credit, and we also offer a two-year warranty on many of our vehicles.

If you have over $800 per month in income, whether through a job, disability, or other monthly documented income, chances are we can get you approved for a loan on a quality used car.  This is truly a great program to help you repair your credit, and get financing on a used car from Michiana’s #1 auto dealership group.

2016 Lincoln Navigator Redesign

The 2016 Lincoln Navigator will be a completely redesigned vehicle, no matter that last model came with the few updates. Traditionally, Lincoln Navigator is one of the longest SUVs on the market, every single year. These updates are going to last only until next year, since the current model has been the same for over 8 years, and it really is time for some more drastic changes to this vehicle’s exterior styling and other segments as well.  One of the major changes that are going to come with the new model is the adoption of light weight aluminum body. With that, the Lincoln Navigator will loose more than 700 pounds of it's previous weight.

The 2016 Navigator is going to be the real luxury SUV and it is going to come with all the goodies a luxury vehicle should have if it wants to be a real competition. New model comes with improved material quality and more soft touch surfaces. Passengers will be able to listen to the premium Bose 11 speaker sound system while getting cooled down by the three zone climate control, sitting on the premium leather seats with heating and cooling options and looking at the easy, nice and functional Sync 3 infotainment system. With plenty of leg room in both seat rows and cargo space that's one of the biggest in it's class, the Navigator will give other big SUV's a run for their money.

The redesigned Lincoln Continental

Lincoln’s new flagship hopes to win over skeptics with tons of features, plenty of style, and a historic name. It will still be related to a front-wheel-drive Ford, but the signature engine will be an exclusive-to-Lincoln 3.0-liter, twin-turbo V-6 producing some 350 hp, and it will have all-wheel drive. Whereas Cadillac emphasizes performance, the Continental will be about quiet, comfortable luxury in the grand American tradition.
This is the new elegantly styled and boldly distinctive Lincoln Continental. It represents who we are as a maker of fine automobiles. It's a culmination of learning, engineering, and envisioning what's to come.  In conceiving it, we left nothing unturned. No question went unanswered. No answer went unchallenged. In designing it, we unearthed the simple truth that elegant design can elicit highly emotive connections.  The Lincoln Continental Concept is everything we know about cars, and everything we understand about people.  And when you bring the two together, you understand why they should never really be apart.
